What are Older Adult Protective Services?

Older Adult Protective Services are provided to individuals aged 60 and over who are at risk for physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, neglect or self-neglect, abandonment, and/or financial exploitation.

Referrals for Protective Services come from many different sources, including: doctor offices, Home Health agencies, hospitals, banks, community members, and family members.

Protective Services referrals require a quick response, to ensure the individual’s safety and well-being.

If necessary, the Protective Services worker can implement interventions to ensure safety and well-being. This could be to get someone medical attention, to remove someone from a dangerous situation, or to arrange for legal assistance.

How to Contact Protective Services

Aging Services is able to take Reports of Need for abuse, neglect, exploitation, or abandonment at any time.
There are on-call workers available for reports after normal business hours.

Contact Protective Services at 724-349-4500, and after business hours, you will be directed to call 911 to be connected to the on-call worker.

Responding to Reports

In most instances, a face to face visit must be completed with the older adult who is at risk within 24 hours.

The Protective Services Worker will gather information, and ensure the older adult is no longer at risk to person or property. Interventions will be completed as needed to ensure safety.
